This storm was predicted and is the consequence of an increasing solar wind speed from a coronal hole approaching a favourable position on the solar disc. A sudden southward turning of the magnetic field in the solar wind around 22h00 UT Jul 14 triggered the beginning of the storm. We expect a slow decay (< 1 day) of the present disturbed geomagnetic conditions. |
